Reviews
Not since Kerouac’s On the Road has anyone been on the road as much as Lewis. Interweaving a driving need to own wheels, to win and lose in love, to grapple with being raised on the mean streets of New York City, Lewis leaves no trauma stone unturned, unnamed, or shied away from with equal parts courage, truth, shame, and always humor.
Reading David’s book took me on my own ride of emotions—I laughed, I cried, I related. Even though his experiences were different from mine, his memoir touched on my own journey and ultimately reminded me to be gentle with myself.
What an engrossing memoir! As a fellow Gen X’er, I loved the nostalgic references—Ferris Bueller, Gumby, and Mr. Magoo added such fun touches. The author’s storytelling grabbed me from the start, making this a fast-paced and compelling read that I couldn’t put down.
